Why we are gathering the stories, science, and stewardship of the American River canyons in one place.
American River Canyon Alliance
The American River is really three rivers. The North, Middle, and South Forks each cut their own canyon through the western Sierra before they meet near Folsom, and each carries its own history, its own wild country, and its own community of people who love it.
A lot of good work happens across these canyons. Land trusts protect acres. Volunteers pull invasive weeds and haul out trash. Scientists measure the storms. Docents lead hikes. Tribes reclaim ancestral ground. Anglers fight to reopen streams to salmon. Much of it happens quietly, in different corners of the watershed, by groups that rarely share a page.
This is our attempt to gather it. We will report on the news, science, and stewardship of the American River canyons, credit the people doing the work, and point you toward ways to join in. When another group breaks a story or leads a project, we will say so and link to them. The canyon is bigger than any one organization.
