The Sierra Nevada Conservancy's current funding newsletter lists roughly 50 open grants. Here are the forest, fire, and watershed opportunities that matter most for the American River canyon.

The Sierra Nevada Conservancy keeps a running list of open funding for our region. The current June and July 2026 edition names roughly 50 grants, sorted into Upcoming Grants and Additional Resources. Several map directly onto work in the American River canyon.
For forest and fire work, the Conservancy lists the CAL FIRE Wildfire Prevention Program (deadline July 8) and CAL FIRE Regional Wildfire and Landscape Resilience Grants for collaborative, landscape-scale projects. The California Wildlife Conservation Board Forest Conservation Program funds upper-watershed protection in the Sierra and Cascade ranges on a rolling basis.
For the rivers themselves, the Conservancy points to the WCB Proposition 1 Streamflow Enhancement Program and the California Riparian Habitat Conservation Program, both rolling. Federal watershed money runs through the Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART Enhancing Water Resources grant (deadline September 9) and the US Fish and Wildlife Service Wetlands Conservation Act Small Grants (June 25).
Trail and access builders should see the Caltrans Active Transportation Program, which funds trails and trailheads, plus the rolling Trek Foundation program for public trail systems.
The Additional Resources section flags the new Wildlife Conservation Board Project Portal, grant-writing help through the California Council of Land Trusts, and direct consultation with the Conservancy's own funding team.
