The Tevis Cup Turns 70: 2026 Ride Set for August 1
The Tevis Cup marks its 70th anniversary on August 1, 2026, running 100 miles from Robie Park near Tahoe down to Auburn. Here are the dates, the route, and how to help keep the trail open.

The 2026 Tevis Cup runs on Saturday, August 1. According to the Western States Trail Foundation, it marks the 70th running of the ride that put the Western States Trail on the map.
The course is 100 miles in one day. It starts at Robie Equestrian Park near Truckee and Tahoe and finishes in Auburn at the Gold Country Fairgrounds. Riders drop off the Sierra crest and work down through the American River canyons, passing checkpoints at Robinson Flat (mile 36), Foresthill (mile 68), Francisco's (mile 85), and No Hands Bridge (mile 96) before the finish.
Two other events fill out the anniversary year. The Education Ride is Saturday, June 13, with entries opening March 31. The Virtual Tevis Cup runs April 23 through August 2 for riders logging miles from anywhere. The final entry deadline for the main ride is July 18.
The ride depends on volunteers. The Foundation reports about 800 people work each Ride Day, more than four for every rider.
The trail itself needs hands too. Storms and brush close sections every season, and crews reopen them. Trail work days are scheduled and posted at wstrail.org. To join a crew, contact trail coordinator Nicole Wertz at wstftrail@gmail.com, or sign up through the trail stewardship page.
